imgRPcSXFAtxq.pngRecently CPIA’s Chair of the Board, Amir Karim of Polykar, and I had the pleasure of meeting two CPIA member firms in Nova Scotia – GN Thermoforming Equipment and Farnell Packaging. We were impressed with what we saw and can confirm that they embody the best of what the east coast has to offer - entrepreneurial spirit, innovation, hospitality, and modesty.

GN Thermoforming Equipment
, nestled in a forest-like setting in beautiful Chester, Nova Scotia, is a world leading manufacturer of roll-fed, in-mold cut thermoforming machines for the production of quality plastic packaging (think trays to hold chocolates, muffins, oranges and tomatoes, to name but a few). Founded by Georg Nemeskeri some 32 years ago, the company’s reputation for quality and attention to customer service has made them the thermoforming machinery supplier of choice for leading manufacturers of plastic packaging in more than 60 countries worldwide. This dedication to quality and customer service was clearly evident in the team we met during our visit, from Georg himself (CPIA’s Leader of the Year in 2002), to the great marketing team of Jerome Romkey and Lise Munroe, to the people in the office and on the plant floor.

imgpqCvQtpLWb.pngFarnell Packaging Limited (FPL)
, established in 1961 and located in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, manufactures and distributes leading-edge flexible packaging materials and provides guidance with related equipment solutions. Nearly two-thirds of FPL packaging is used in the food industry with the balance used in markets for textile, tissue, diapers, paper, industrial and promotions. A stroll down your grocery store aisle showcases FPL’s handiwork – from produce, bakery, fish, consumer tissue/paper packaging to multipack overwrap and labels. We were delighted to tour their facility (where we saw packaging for Ocean Spray cranberries, Stanfield underwear and a plethora of President’s Choice products to name just a few) then sat down with Debby and Judy, daughters of late founder Don Farnell (CPIA’s Leader of the Year in 2004), and some of their senior management team – Tom Rudolph, Bill Morash and Neil MacMillan. Everyone from top to bottom at Farnell is passionate about their work and lives the core values of quality, responsiveness, innovation and integrity.

Canada’s east coast is famous for many things…great music, lighthouses, seafood, natural wonders…and now we can add to the treasures’ list two jewels called GN Thermoforming Equipment and Farnell Packaging Limited – great success stories both and proud to call them CPIA members!
