Increasing Sustainability and Competitiveness with  Natural Fibre Thermoplastics Composites

Much has been said about using materials that contribute to a more sustainable environment. However sustainability goes beyond addressing only environmental issues, it should also consider the economics of the process and assure that it is socially responsible. This presentation will discuss recent advances in bringing thermoplastics composites to the market. The case of recycled thermoplastics reinforced with natural fibres will be presented and how the research collaboration between the university and industrial partners was carried out to remove barriers and bring the product closer to commercialization. It will consider the selection of raw materials, optimization of formulation and careful evaluation of molding parameters to assure new products are developed in a sustainable manner addressing both the environmental benefits and the economics
