Recycling of plastics from households has evolved significantly over the years. It is based on the collection, sorting and processing of homogenous streams of plastics. This approach maximizes the availability of markets for recycled plastics.  

New markets for recycled plastics are also evolving. The number of companies in the recycling field has more than tripled over the last ten years. Over the same period, the plastics industry has invested millions of dollars in recycling initiatives across North America.  

CPIA promotes the recycling of plastic materials in municipal collection programs and conducts ongoing research to identify markets for post-consumer plastics.
