Whether you are riding a bicycle or driving a car, a truck or a motorcycle, you have benefited from plastics. Plastics have enabled many safety innovations that protect us from harm on our roads – helping to reduce personal injury and save lives.

Plastics play a critically important safety function in the car. Most of us know that plastics make up anywhere from 11 to 15 percent of a car’s construction and that the use of plastics has made cars 40 to 50 percent lighter. However, few realize that many of the safety features in a car – like seat belts, airbags and children’s safety seats – are made possible because of plastics.
