Teacher's Resources & Tools

In addition to the educational programs described in the Class Courses section, CPIA has other resources that may be of interest to the teaching community.

Download this short fun and informative tale of how two oil drops live two different lives: one as energy to heat our homes and the other as plastic. Discover the lifecycle of a plastic product – from oil drop to recycling and then back to energy. Special thanks to PlasticsEurope for supplying the video.
Crossword puzzles are always fun to do and this one is no different – except that it contains lots of information about litter and about things that you can do to help prevent litter.
This is a fact sheet and crossword puzzle combined. Students read the "facts" on plastic film (i.e. plastic grocery bags and bread bags) presented on one side of the page and then they are ready to fill out the crossword puzzle on the other side. Answers are on a separate page.
Print out the colourful graphic icons used in CPIA's popular Plastic Bottle Recycling Poster and then have your students rearrange them in order of the recycling process. There are 16 icons in total (in one PDF file, 4.6 MB - this may take a few minutes).
Recycling a plastic product is a multi-step process that requires very specialized equipment. Essentially, a finished end product – like a plastic water bottle – is chopped, washed, melted and extruded into plastic pellets. These plastic pellets are then sold to a plastic reprocessor, who will use them in a specific manufacturing process (such as blow molding in the case of plastic bottles or extrusion in the case of plastic lumber) to create a “new” or “recycled” plastic product.
Crossword puzzle highlighting the uses of plastics in sports. Students read the facts on sports safety presented on one side, they then are ready to fill out the puzzle on the other side.
33 hidden words that have something to do with litter. You need to find the words – which may appear backwards, forwards, up, down or diagonally in either direction. Once you have found and circled all of the 33 words, use the remaining letters to spell out a secret message about litter. Good luck!
